I don't do desserts very often... regular ice cream and chocolate are quite fine by me. Maybe a brownie, or a rice krispie square. But when Valentine's Day rolls around and you have a special someone to impress, it's always good to have a good dessert recipe in your back pocket!
I always though that this one was an old family recipe because my mother made it all the time, but it turns out that the version she's used most recently just came from Fine Cooking like most of my other recipes. It's pretty easy to make, actually. You can do the baking part early in the day and just prepare the fruit and whipped cream before you serve. When you're baking, definitely follow their directions precisely regarding measurements and technique for the best result. Get a rolling pin and a round cutter if you don't have one and it makes the process a lot easier.
And don't forget to mix the sugar into the strawberries like I did - it was still good without but I can't even imagine how much more awesome it would have been if I had remembered!
