After my peanut butter pasta fiasco last week, I felt the need to try something a little simpler with more of a guaranteed taste to regain my confidence in the kitchen. What better than a tasty sandwich to do so?
Discovered a little gem from my favourite recipe website for some Chopped Steak Sandwiches. I like steak, I like sandwiches, and I even like chopping! What could go wrong!
As it turns out, nothing... this was delicious and pretty easy. Check it out here: http://www.finecooking.com/recipes/chopped-steak-sandwiches.aspx
I skipped the arugula as you can tell from my picture... it seemed kind of pointless for anything but adding a bit of colour. I did use the food processor as described - one of the comments suggested not to but I think chopping it yourself wouldn't quite give you the consistency you want here.
I also couldn't find any jarred hot cherry peppers... I'm not sure that's something that is easily found in Canada. I substituted a regular jarred red pepper and about 1/2 tsp of hot pepper flakes. I have no idea how that compares to what the recipe is supposed to taste like, but I was pretty pleased with the result!
Only other suggestion would be to add the mushrooms a bit earlier in the onion cooking process - if you've purchased regular pre-sliced mushrooms, they will take a bit longer than the 3 minutes given to get down to the size/colour/flavour that you probably want for this.
Give it a shot and let me know how you do!
