It's been awhile since I tried something new in the kitchen... the more into summer we get, the busier it gets (and the hotter it gets inside!)

That's no excuse not to experiment though, so off I went to a new recipe I've been sitting on for a few months now. There's nothing exceptionally odd or special about any of these ingredients or the way they're combined, although I've never used sausage meat with a cream sauce before.

In any case, the result was divine. Using organic hot Italian sausage meat gives you a bit of spice without being really fatty and gross. Roasted red peppers from the jar save time and draining them saves fat too. The arugula and especially fresh basil add both colour and great flavour/texture/freshness. Fresh pasta instead of the dry stuff also just helps the whole meal out.

It all comes together quite quickly so I'd plan on having everything chopped and measured before you start, except maybe the greens which you could prepare while the sauce is thickening in the final step.

For the record I accidentally used twice as much sausage as I was supposed to - apparently it only says 8oz and I used a full package which was over 1lbs. It wasn't overwhelmingly meaty though, and I didn't have to drain any oil off as it suggests in one of the steps.

Try it yourself - very easy for a weeknight and a great flavour that everyone can enjoy!
