Just in time for the upcoming hockey season, Saugeen Shores has tentatively approved a deal for new operators of the canteen services at the Plex in Port Elgin and the Coliseum in Southampton.
Saugeen Shores Manager of Recreation Lisa Billing says they're looking forward to finalizing the deal in time for the busy winter activities at both venues.
Peggy Coffey and Dean Sands, former operators of Sands Southside Fries in Port Elgin will have a one year lease at both outlets.
The new operators have been providing food at the Hawks Nest during Saugeen Shores Winterhawks games this past season and will continue that service for this season.
You may recall at earlier council meetings, there was concern about the inconsistency of service at the canteens in the past.
Billing says the new operators are aware of the concerns.
The Operators are committed to posting their hours of operation and providing services at both facilities for the 2019-2020 season.
They intend to facilitate a meeting with user groups to understand how they can best meet their needs.
Committee of the Whole has approved a bylaw which will come back to council at the next meeting.
The canteen at the Plex is expected to be open Octobrer 11th, the date of the first home game of the Winterhawks.
