You may hear some loud blasts and explosions in the Meaford area over the next couple of days.
The Municipality of Meaford says it will be hosting part of the Canadian Armed Forces Ardent Defender Exercise in partnership with the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and local emergency service organizations.
Ardent Defender is a joint counter-explosive threat scenario, according to a release from the municipality.
"It is the largest exercise of its kind to take place in Canada, and will include participants from over 20 nations around the world," a release from Meaford staff explains. "The aim of the exercise is to refine the skills to defeat threats that could be faced during Armed Forces operations."
Today, the exercise will take place at Meaford Hall and tomorrow it will be at the Meaford Water Treatment Plant.
Municipal staff advise the Market Square parking lot will be restricted today and Grandview Drive in front of the water treatment plant shuttered tomorrow.
Throughout the exercise, residents near the training areas can expect to hear loud blasts and explosions between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
You may also notice military personnel and vehicles, emergency services personnel, and soldiers from international militaries who have been invited to take part.
