Ontario's only Dryland Sled Dog Derby will be hitting the trails at MacGregor Point Park next weekend, Nov. 9-10.
The 4th annual event saw 70 entrees in the two days of competition last year that features: Canicros, Bikejoring and rigged races with multiple breeds of dog.
Board Member of the Sleddog Sports Association of Southwestern Ontario (SSASO) which organizes the MacGregor Dog Derby, Jo Anne Hutchinson says there's still lots of room for the event to grow.
"We'd be happy to welcome new people that would like to give it a try; any rookies that just run with their dogs for fun or bicycle with their dogs (bikejoring), so we would welcome more participants as well."
She adds MacGregor is the ideal place for this event.
"It's well maintained and provides a lot of variety for the dogs, different trails a short beach stretch, there's lots of twists and turns that make it a technical trail for the dogs and the mushers which make it really interesting for them."
The team behind the event welcome anyone to come and watch as long as they leave their own furry friends at home.
Hutchinson says visitors are welcome to meet the dogs as long as it's okay with their handlers and respect the dogs at the start and finish line.
"It's a great way to spend the day outdoors," she adds the dogs need very little encouragement to run".
