The embattled Police Chief in Victoria B.C. has resigned.
Frank Elsner had already been suspended by the Police Services Board.
The former Deputy Chief of Police in Owen Sound was facing investigation and possible disciplinary action over inappropriate tweets sent to a female officer on another force, who was married to one of his own officers.
There were also alleged attempts to obstruct a subsequent investigation.
In a statement, the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board says Elsner advised them through his lawyer that he considers his employment with the Police Board to be at an end.
The Police Board says it concludes from his statement that Elsner has resigned, and that effective immediately he won't receive any salary or employment benefits.
Officials say the Police services board will meet soon to determine their next steps, in appointing a new chief.
Back in March, a pair of retired judges reviewed 11 allegations against Elsner, and ruled he would face disciplinary hearings.
Elsner was Deputy Chief in Owen Sound from 2001 to 2007.
He has been suspended for just over a year by the Force.
