With Autumn now in full swing, the need for blood remains high as we get closer to the winter season.
Canadian Blood Services Territory Manager, Stephanie Wilkinson, says while the need for blood is there at this time of the year, it's really needed year round.
Wilkinson says it can really be challenging to get donors out; she says it really depends on what people in the community are doing.
"If they're starting to go away on their winter holidays or if they're busy with family for example last weekend for Thanksgiving, so we're often challenged with making sure people remember the importance of making time to come out and donate blood," says Wilkinson.
Right now, the national blood inventory (across Canada) on hand is sitting a little bit lower than they'd like to see at Canadian Blood Services.
Currently, the inventory is sitting somewhere in the neighbourhood of 19,000 units of blood; Canadian Blood Services likes to keep that number closer to 20,000 minimum.
