A 6.5-million-dollar hotel development is in the works for Sauble Beach.
The proposed 4-storey boutique hotel–to be called the Lake Shore Inn–will feature 21 units located in what is now a vacant lot on the east side of Lakeshore Boulevard.
Currently the land, across from the Crowd Inn, is used as a discount parking lot for beachgoers.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson says this development is a first in Sauble Beach that is over 2-storeys.
According to the mayor, the ground floor will be a restaurant overlooking the beach while the other floors will house the rental units.
It’s early, but so far Jackson says the public reaction is mixed towards the development with some people being excited to see some progress while others want to make sure the small cottage community of Sauble remains and that’s where the public meeting on July 6th comes in where people will be able to air their thoughts.
The public meeting will be part of the municipality’s regular council meeting.
According to the Economic Development Officer for South Bruce Peninsula, Danielle Edwards, if the project gets the go-ahead, developers want to begin building this August or September, with construction lasting 16-months.
An official opening date is tentatively scheduled for sometime in May, 2023.
Edwards, in an email to Bayshore Broadcasting News, says the hotel will create 8-to-12 full time jobs and the developer wants to stay open year-round which will help support tourism development in the shoulder and off seasons in the community.
First up though, is a zoning change application for the property from resort/residential to general commercial.
