Markdale residents can learn about plans to revitalize the village’s downtown today.
The vacant site of the former Foodtown building on municipally owned property at 20 Toronto Street North is the focus of the project.
A consulting group called The Planning Partnership is hosting two public sessions (Tuesday, July 6th) at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to learn about the visioning exercise underway for Downtown Markdale.
The consultants will share the results of the online survey to get input on early ideas, present the draft concept plan for the Municipally owned property, and other suggestions for Downtown Markdale.
Each session will begin with a brief presentation, followed by a conversation with all those attending. Both sessions will be recorded and posted to the project webpage.
In 2018, Grey Highlands bought the two-acre property at the corner of Grey Road 12 and Highway 10 with an aim to use it in downtown revitalization efforts. The empty building was demolished and a temporary gravel area with benches and lighting has been put in its place. A smaller property across the street beside Fire & Ice is also municipally owned and vacant.
Council has been looking for ideas and visions that might include retail, commercial and professional offices, housing, entertainment and education. They want the project to include best practices in green and sustainable development and to have a heavy emphasis on public input.
