Bruce County is starting construction on a new paramedic station in Port Elgin.
The county says the facility, located on the Bruce County Lakeshore Hub property, will serve as the headquarters for paramedic services.
The facility features a paramedic simulator lab for paramedic training, two large meeting rooms, which are able to hold up to 32 people, a large training gym, hoteling workstations for county staff, and rough-ins for two double-head electric vehicle charging stations.
The facility also features additional parking spaces to address parking issues at the Lakeshore Hub.
Paramedic Services Chief Steve Schaus says with easier access to Highway 21, this new facility enhances their ability to provide emergency care in Saugeen Shores and beyond.
“Having the additional training and meeting space will also expand our training capabilities and support our paramedicine services,”
Warden Janice Jackson adds they have been planning for a new paramedic station for a while and the investment in the building will last a life time.
“This new paramedic services station in Port Elgin is a key long-term investment in emergency services for our region. We are ensuring that our county paramedics are fully equipped with the training tools they need to deliver emergency care and service to Bruce County residents.”
The $8 million construction of the approximately three-bay paramedic station is expected to be finished by early summer of 2023.
