The Walkerton hospital has opened up a new procedure room for minor surgeries.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) says they partnered with General Surgeon Dr. John Stirrat to renovate and open the new room in his office.
This space will allow for timely access to care for cases which do not need to be performed in an operating room, including treating skin cancer.
In its first week of operation, Dr. Stirrat saw over 40 patients in the new space, which the SBGHC says, diverts cases away from the emergency department and operating room.
Dr. Stirrat says the new space is going to be an outstanding addition to the hospital and family health team resources.
“This will enable more efficient access to care for patients with skin cancers, and other skin lesions,” he says.
SBGHC President and CEO Michael Barrett adds the new room will ensure greater access to important procedures and make sure operating room resources are dedicated to surgical cases requiring the space.
