The Municipality of Grey Highlands held its inaugural meeting following the recent municipal election.
The event held on Dec. 5 at the Kinplex in Flesherton, allowed Mayor Paul McQueen, Deputy Mayor Dane Nielsen, and Councillors Paul Allen, Tom Allwood, Nadia Dubyk, Joel Loughead, and Dan Wickens to declare their oaths to office and give a few words.
McQueen’s address included some tasks ahead of the new council for the next four years, including building a safe, affordable, and inclusive municipality.
“The challenges of the next four years will require teamwork, leadership, and a commitment to engage with our communities. We need to build upon our past successes and bring new ideas and perspectives into council chambers. I look forward to working with my colleagues to tackle these challenges and embrace the opportunities that arise to keep Grey Highlands a thriving community for generations to come,” says McQueen.
CAO Karen Govan welcomed the new members of council, expressing her enthusiasm for the passion and commitment of the newly elected members, and how staff are looking forward to start working together.
The new term of council is going to start with a special meeting tomorrow at 9 a.m., then follow with a regular meeting later at 1 p.m. Council will be discussing meeting structure and appointing members to committees.
