Grey Highlands is approving the name of a new trail established alongside the Armstrong Creek in Markdale.
During a meeting on May 17, council received a report from Director of Corporate and Legislative Services and Clerk Raylene Martell. It recommended naming the new trail as Armstrong Creek Trail and to proceed with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The report says a request was submitted to formally name the trail located at the Rotary Park in Markdale, a 600 metre trail which runs along the recently rehabilitated creek.
A report to name the trail was submitted by the Grey Highlands Transportation and Public Spaces Department as they were overseeing the Markdale Town Pond Dam Removal project, which included the addition of the trail.
A request for comment was circulated to Grey County, Grey Bruce OPP, Grey Highlands Fire and Emergency Services, Grey Highlands Planning, and Grey Highlands Senior Management on the proposed naming of the trail.
A notice was also provided on April 9 requesting input from residents.
The report says there were no concerns or opposition to the proposed name, with Fire and Emergency Services suggesting signage at several locations in the event a person needs to call 9-1-1.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be scheduled to celebrate and thank those who contributed to the rehabilitation of the creek and the new trail.
