The latest release from the Royal Canadian Mint is a toonie that is honouring the rich and diverse indigeous history in Canada.
There are 3 artists who have contributed to this new design, Megan Currie (English River First Nation), Jennine Krauchi (Red River Métis) and Myrna Pokiak (Agnaviak) who is Inuvialuk from Tuktoyaktuk.
This new $2 coin features three unique and colourful designs — with splashes of red, orange, white and black — that each represent First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and communities.
Three Million of the newly designed coins have been minted and began circulation yesterday, June 21st.
Two Million of them are in colour with the other One Million in the classic silver/gold.
So, watch your change for one of these beautiful coins!
