Grey Bruce Public Health says Kelso Beach at Nawash Park in Owen Sound has been posted unsafe for swimming because of high bacteria levels, likely due to rainfall.
They say water sampling results received Friday afternoon showed bacteria levels exceeding Ontario Ministry of Health standards.
Kelso Beach at Nawash Park remains open, but they advise, people shouldn’t swim or play in the beach water or let pets drink the water until the no-swimming advisory is lifted.
Public Health says the beach will remain posted until further samples return with levels within the acceptable range for swimming. They say they plan to resample the beach early next week.
The splash pad, washrooms and other amenities are on municipal water and public health says they are safe.
Senior Public Health Manager Andrew Barton says, “When bacteria levels in beach water exceed Ontario guidelines, swimmers are at an increased risk of getting sick or an infection.”
