What a night for the Attack.
Pierce Mbuyi and Landen Hookey each scored hat tricks, and James Petrovski added a pair of goals as the Owen Sound Attack downed the Erie Otters 8-5 in Ontario Hockey League action Friday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Mbuyi finished with five points and Hookey had four, as the Attack (18-28-3-3) moved into a tie with the Soo Greyhounds (20-31-1-1) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the OHL’s Western Conference.
Sam Alfano scored twice for Erie (26-20-3-1), while Wesley Royston, Alexis Daviault and Pano Finis also had goals.
The Otters outshot the Attack 50-28 while going 2 for 5 on the power play; Owen Sound was 2 for 3.
HAT TRICK, BOO-EE
Pierce Mbuyi’s hat trick Friday was his third of the season, and left a mark in the Owen Sound record books. He became the first player in Owen Sound Attack/Platers history to score three hat tricks in his age-16 rookie season.
Mbuyi also moved into second on the true rookie goal scoring list in Owen Sound history. He’s now up to 23, which moved him into second all-time past Bobby Ryan and Daniel Sisca. Current Oshawa Generals forward Colby Barlow had 30 in his rookie campaign with the Attack in 2021-22.
