Grey Highlands is looking into how it can support a funding request for new playground equipment in Singhampton.
Council approved looking into a funding request from Singhampton Community Centre and Park Board Member Andy Uden during its meeting on Feb. 26.
The Singhampton Community Centre and Park is a volunteer run, not-for-profit organization, which aims to maintain the hall, ice rink, ball diamond and park in the community, half of which is in Clearview Township.
Uden says last spring, the organization had the existing playground equipment inspected and to prevent injuries, the board decided to demolish the existing park.
That summer, community volunteers removed the old equipment and in the fall, Uden started researching playground equipment.
The new playground is currently being planned and designed for children 18 months to 12-years-old and also include accessibility features, with a budget set at $75,000.
“On behalf of the members of the board, trustees an the local Singhampton community, I would request any financial assistance that the Grey Highlands council sees fit and able to provide,” says Uden.
Coun. Nadia Dubyk says this is one of the many parkland requests the municipality has received recently.
“I think it really is a reflection of the growth of our communities and the growing number of families and the need for places to gather,” says Dubyk.
Deputy Mayor Dane Nielsen proposed staff return with a report on how the municipality can support the project, which was supported by council.
