The Scenic City Order of Good Cheer is getting ready to hold a fundraising lottery for a new splash pad in Owen Sound.
President Bill Jackson says they recently received approval from the city to hold a lottery for a Dodge pickup truck, which will last all year.
“We are hoping to make a good dollar on it and if people come out and buy tickets from any member it will all go towards the splash pad, which we are hoping to have built at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena,” says Jackson.
Jackson says they are looking to start the lottery as soon as the 1,000 tickets are made, which he anticipates will be next week.
He adds they are looking to make between $40,000 to $50,000 and will make the draw next New Year’s Eve.
While they do not have all the details of what the splash pad is going to look like, Jackson says it may be similar to the one at Kelso Beach, the price they would like for the new splash pad will cost $300,000 to $400,000.
“We haven’t got pricing from the supplier or anybody for install, so we are hoping we can do it for that,” says Jackson.
In addition to the lottery, Jackson says they are also looking to hold a fundraising golf tournament in August.
“We had our first one last August and it was a success,” says Jackson. “Right now we are going to do that and possibly some fish fry’s around the area.”
