West Grey is putting out a contract to rehabilitate a bridge in Normanby.
Council approved issuing a request to repair the structure on Concession 12 between Highway 6 and Grey Road 3 during a meeting on Sept. 3, as well as reduce the speed limit on Concession 12 to 60 kilometres an hour.
Director of Infrastructure and Public Works Geoff Aitken says, “this particular structure has been the subject of two more vehicle accidents. We are in the receipt of monies of up to $110,000 to repair the railing, I would like to go ahead and do that. Given that the structures are relatively narrow compared to the rest of the road, we do want to reduce the speed limit in that section and generally throughout the whole Concession we would like to reduce the speed limit.”
Aitken says the municipality has been in communication with Grey County about the approach to repair the bridge, as Concession 12 is the subject of a proposed road transfer with the county.
Since no firm timeline on the road transfer has been set, however, staff recommend the repair to the bridge be made within the scope of $110,000 before this upcoming winter season.
