The Port Elgin Business Improvement Area or BIA is studying the possibility of expanding its borders.
BIA Coordinator Jordan MacKinnon, speaking at the BIA’s Annual General Meeting, says the borders of the BIA have not changed since 2012 but since then, the business community in Port Elgin has grown substantially.
MacKinnon says the boundary today runs roughly from the movie theatre, just north of Market Street, south to Ralph’s Hi-Way Shopette at the corner of Goderich and Catherine Streets.
The expanded vision would go from the 10th Concession, south to the 6th Concession.
MacKinnon says they’re starting big and we’ll see how many businesses will be interested in taking part.
He says the expansion could help create levies so the BIA could do more within its catchment area.
The levy amount has been fixed at $33,000 since 2012 as well.
